RMU Receives Award as “The Best Oil and Gas Training Institution” in Ghana for year 2016 – Regional Maritime University

The Regional Maritime University has been awarded as “The Best Oil and Gas Training Institution” in  Ghana for year 2016.   The award was presented during the 3rd Oil & Gas Ghana Awards (OGGA 2016) held at the Holiday Inn hotel in Accra on the 28th of October, 2016,. Twenty-four (24) other Oil and Gas Institutions including personalities, were also awarded.

The award was received on behalf of the University by the Provost – Ing.  Augustus Addy-Lamptey, accompanied by the Ag. Head of the Marine Electrical and Electronic Department – Mr. Kwame Enstuah, the Marketing Officer – Mrs. Evelyn Quartey and the Ag. Public Relations Officer – Ms. Sika Attipoe.

RMU is an international tertiary institution governed by five (5) West and Central African States on Maritime Transport namely:  Cameroon, The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone.   -RMU was founded as the Ghana Nautical College in 1958, regionalized as an Academy in 1983 and gained its present status as a University on the 25th of October, 2007.  Its mandate is to train personnel  for the maritime, oil and gas and ancillary industries to acquire knowledge, excellence and discipline in academic, professional, vocational and research work.  It also runs the IMO mandatory and other short courses/seminars.

Dedicated to the consistent development of human capital in the maritime industry of the sub-region and beyond, the University has trained thousands of personnel for the maritime and allied industries.  The institution, unlike others, educates and trains resource persons who may, in most cases, work for international Shipping Lines and Ports, among others, where standards are governed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and individual National Shipping/Maritime laws.

The RMU has a proud tradition of discipline and excellence and it continues to build on its reputation as a research-driven University as well as develop strategic partnerships in order to become the University of first choice in Maritime Education and Training in Africa and beyond.
